SEPANG, February 17 - Two lucky passengers traveling via KLIA who participated in the Grand Shopping Bonanza contest are the proud owners of two new sleek TD2000 cars. Their entry forms were the lucky two to be drawn by Tan Sri Dato' Seri Ramli Ngah Talib, Deputy Minister of Transport at the Grand Shopping Bonanza TD 2000 Draw dinner event here at the KL International Airport. Also present at the event were Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Aris Othman, Chairman, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) and Dato' Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director, MAHB. The two lucky winners were, Mr. P. E. Smith, a retiree from Britain and Mr. Ngu Hew Sii a Malaysian Businessman.

The 'Grand Shopping Bonanza' contest which ran during the KLIA Shopping 'Festivals of Malaysia' campaign from 1st November 2003 to 31st January 2004, saw tremendous respond from the local and foreign to participate in the contest. Participants had to complete the slogan "I like shopping in KLIA because..." in not more than 15 words, in the most creative way. The more they spend, the more chances they have to win. All entry forms were then placed in the drawing wheel.

The made-in Malaysia TD 2000 car is worth about RM200,000 on the road. The two lucky winners will be contacted by the KLIA Shopping Steering Committee to redeem their cars.

Earlier in his speech, Tan Sri Dato' Seri Ramli Ngah Talib congratulated the KLIA Shopping Steering Committee for running yet another successful KLIA Shopping campaign to encourage passengers to shop at KLIA.

"I am happy to see the proactive initiative of the KLIA Shopping steering committee. This is the second phase of the KLIA Shopping campaign and from reports I am told that passenger spending has indeed increased and we are receiving positive feedback from foreign travellers on the activities held at KLIA. I believe the continuous efforts of the committee will result in the transforming of KLIA into the preferred airport in the region." he added.

The KLIA Shopping Campaign is organized to transform KLIA into a shoppers haven for travelers from all over the world. The recent campaign themed 'Festivals of Malaysia' has seen month long fun and entertaining activities leading up to each of the three festivals - Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Christmas and Chinese New Year.

'Festivals of Malaysia' does not only showcase Malaysia's unique culture to the world, but also demonstrates how Malaysians of various religions and cultural backgrounds live together in peace and harmony.

"The response from foreign and local passengers alike was encouraging as many passengers were drawn to the handsome, hand-built sports car, uniquely combining the best of a bygone age with the technology of today," said Syed Ahmad Syed Salim, Head of KLIA Shopping Steering Committee.

The 'Gift from the Heart' presentation ceremony was also held at the Dinner. The 'Gift from the Heart' charity drive was organized as part of the activity for Christmas 2003. In the spirit of giving, passengers were encouraged to purchase gifts from any retail outlet at KLIA and place the gift under the Christmas tree at the airport. The Committee also managed to secure sponsored gifts from Batek Malaysia, Samsonite, Swatch, Royal Selangor and Pan Pacific KLIA totaling to over RM10,000.

The gifts were presented by Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Aris Othman to representatives from three local orphanages, namely, Rumah Faith Kajang, Rumah Anak Yatim Banting and Trinity Children's Home Selangor.

"Giving back to the community, especially those less fortunate than ourselves, is part of our social obligation as a responsible corporate citizen." Added Syed Ahmad.

There was also a surprise draw at the end of the evening as one of the four Perodua Kelisa car had not been won by anyone during the campaign for the "Shop and Unlock the Kelisa" contest. The proud winner for this was Dr. Wan Marina a Malaysian Lecturer from Klang.
